API summit: Diving Deep into Mobile

The American Press Institute will hold an invitation-only Thought Leader Summit on mobile news strategies on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 in Arlington, Va.

Diving Deep into Mobile: Advanced Conversations for Modern Newsrooms will gather executives, mobile product managers, editors and other innovators from leading legacy and startup news organizations. We’re bringing people together with a range of titles, all of whom have hands-on responsibility for creating and managing mobile strategies that can succeed in today’s media ecosystem.

This is our second summit on mobile news since 2014. We held our first at Google’s DC office about 20 months ago, producing this report on unlocking mobile revenue and audience. To push beyond the basic mobile-related topics that journalism conferences commonly rehash, we’re planning an agenda of small, in-depth discussions on narrow, nuanced issues that mobile-focused people want to explore with each other.

Unlike a typical conference, the intimate, interactive summit allows each attendee to be an active participant, sharing their expertise and experiences while gaining actionable insights from others. Discussion topics for the day will be surfaced in advance by invitees, and we’ll also take inspiration from the creative startup environment of 1776, a DC-based global incubator and seed fund where we’ll hold the summit.

After the event, the best ideas will be distilled into a resource for matters related to mobile news strategies and products.

Participating organizations include, among others:

Washington Post

New York Times

Boston Globe

The Toronto Star

The Guardian

The Huffington Post

Billy Penn

National Journal

Stanford University

Detroit Free Press

The McClatchy Company

Breaking News / NBC

Yahoo News

Mic News

CQ Roll Call

Local News Now

The Intercept

Cox Media Group

Philadelphia Inquirer

Deseret Digital Media

Space is limited and participation is by invitation only, however people interested in participating may apply for consideration. We look for individuals and organizations advancing the summit’s topic area, with efforts to show. We believe a diversity of lived experiences, skillsets and backgrounds makes these events successful.
