The mistakes publishers make with mobile apps

While The Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal and others publishers see apps as essential components of their mobile strategy, there’s no instructional manual that explains how to design and produce content for a good mobile app, writes Eric Blattberg. “I tend to disagree with the notion that publishers should focus on the mobile Web and not mobile apps,” said Jimmy Maymann, CEO of The Huffington Post. “People who download our app visit much more frequently and consume 10 times more articles than people coming from the mobile Web. … But we’re in the early stages [of capitalizing on that] engaged audience.” Blattberg looks at some common mistakes publishers make, such as abusing push notifications and scheduling for a desktop audience.
