After opening a D.C. office last spring, Medium is trying to get more politicians on the platform

Medium has a simple pitch for politicians, Nancy Scola writes: “Get your message out with none of the editorial interference that comes with old-school media.” As a result, politicians including Hillary Clinton and John Boehner have used Medium to voice their stances and make announcements. By having a presence in Washington, D.C., Scola writes that Medium has a lot to gain: “Establishing itself as the place where national leaders go to talk to one another helps the company, which has struggled a bit to decide what it wants to be, carve out a place in the online ecosystem. And it can piggyback off a broader shift in the relationship between Washington and journalism, with the political world no longer quite so dependent on the press in the age of social media.”
