An Irish newspaper refused to photograph Taylor Swift concerts and sign controversial ‘rights-grabbing’ contract

The National Union of Journalists is applauding the Irish Times after it refused to sign a “rights-grabbing” photography contract for two sold-out Taylor Swift concerts in Dublin. The contract says photographs can only be taken during the second and third songs of Swift’s set and “may be used on a one-time only basis for news or information purposes.” The photographs also cannot be re-used without Swift’s written permission. Irish Times’ deputy picture editor Brenda Fitzsimons says: “The terms and conditions of the contract are exceedingly restrictive and just not feasible for a working newspaper and website.”
