Netflix says its next area for expansion may be news programming
You might have heard: Since Vice News was created in December 2013, it has attracted Millennials and expanded rapidly into international markets and news programming
But did you know: After disrupting TV programming, Netflix has set its sights on another area: News programming. Following its third-quarter earnings call, CEO Reed Hastings and chief content officer Ted Sarandos said Netflix could be competing with Vice on news within the next two years. However, a Netflix representative said the company is not trying to get into the “reporting and live news business.” Netflix is already producing documentaries, an area that news companies are looking to for growth.
