Gawker CEO Nick Denton is ‘intensely relaxed’ about the possibility of a union

You might have heard: Some of the editorial staff at Gawker Media are in the early stages of unionizing, which became rarer in journalism in the past 20 years and would make Gawker the first major online media company to unionize (Gawker)

But did you know: In Hamilton Nolan’s article explaining why some of the editorial staff at Gawker are unionizing, he says they want to make sure everyone receives a salary that is fair for the work that they do and to ensure that pay and raises are set in an unbiased and transparent way. Gawker CEO Nick Denton was not concerned about the possibility of a union and said that “successful capitalist enterprises” often lead to good working conditions. Denton says: “Journalists have a strong anarcho-syndicalist tradition. Content creators on the web have the same trait. Gawker Editorial is run like a worker’s collective.”
