Writing Tips Looking for mentors
By Steve Buttry November 11, 2005 12:00 PM
In a discussion over beers in Halifax, a reporter was interested in finding a mentor and I told about the editor I connected with a long-distance mentor by passing the request along to my leadership tips list. She liked the idea, so I'm seeking a writer who would mentor her. If you would be willing to be an occasional e-mail and telephone mentor to a young writer at a weekly newspaper in Canada, please let me know. As I did with the leadership mentors, I'll also invite people on this list who'd like a mentor to let me know. I'll match those seeking mentors with those volunteering. Tell me a little about yourself, whichever role you're seeking. I'll try to make good matches. And now for a tip. This link actually comes from me. I don't often plug my own columns here, but my current "Training Tracks" column addresses an issue where too many writers today (not you, I hope) are woefully lacking – verification: http://www.americanpressinstitute.org/content/7287.cfm I also encourage you to read the plug that follows my signature, about an approaching deadline for a 2-for-1 opportunity on two API seminars that I believe will be excellent (OK, I'm in charge of one of them).
