API News Releases Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editor To Speak at API SeminarApril 19, 2006RESTON, VA--Stanley Tiner, executive editor and vice president of The Sun Herald in Biloxi, Miss., which won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for public service, will speak about leading in chaotic times at API's seminar High-Performance Leadership, May 21-25, in Reston, Va. Tiner will discuss how his newspaper dealt with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and earned this year's Pulitzer Prize for public service journalism in the process. "Whether it's dealing with the aftermath of natural or man-made disasters, demographic and cultural upheaval, exploding technological advances or major shifts in competitive dynamics, today's newspaper executives need to have the leadership skills to deal with a wide spectrum of chaotic management scenarios," said Andrew B. Davis, API's president and executive director. "Who better to learn these leadership lessons from than from an executive who has already been there?" Tiner has been in his current position at the Sun Herald since May 2000. Previously he served as executive editor of the Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City, and he edited the Mobile (Ala.) Register. He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and was a longtime editor of The Journal in Shreveport, La. In 1985-86 he was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. Tiner is a former U.S. Marine and a veteran of 13 months combat in the Vietnam War. He has served as a chapter president of the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi. He currently serves on the board of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. For more information or to register, go to www.americanpressinstitute.org/06/Leadership.
