FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RESTON, VA--Mary Peskin has joined the staff of the American Press Institute as an associate director.

She will research, design and conduct seminars focusing on
news-editorial issues, design and new-audience development in API's core programming division.

"API is fortunate to have someone with 25 years of design and newspaper experience," said President and Executive Director Andrew B. Davis. "She has worked in newsrooms, advertising and marketing departments of newspapers small and large in the United States, Europe and South America."

Prior to joining API, Mary was design director of the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group, where she designed and implemented more than 50 redesigns and new products. Two of her designs received "World's Best Newspapers" honors in the Society for News Design's international competition.

Peskin spent five years with advertising agencies before beginning her newspaper career with Star-News Newspapers in Wilmington, N.C., as promotions manager and advertising designer. She has served on the executive committee of the College of Design of North Carolina State University and the board of directors of Society for News Design.
