Advertising declines weigh on News Corp. and New York Times Co.

You might have heard: New York Times CEO lays out “a critical year” for ad revenue with native advertising, video and more tiered subscription packages(Capital New York)

But did you know: News Corp’s  revenue fell 4 percent in its second quarter as a drop in advertising and subscription revenue at the news and information business offset growth at its other businesses. Separately, New York Times Co. said fourth-quarter earnings fell 63 percent, amid declines in both print and digital advertising revenue. News Corp. Chief Executive Robert Thomson said the company recognized “a need to take action” to address institutional revenue declines and said News Corp. was “cautiously optimistic” about the future performance of its advertising business.
