Daniel Gaines

Since 2006, Daniel Gaines has been Manager Editor, operations, at latimes.com, the website for The Los Angeles Times. He has overall responsibility for the data interactivity group, search optimization, social media, metrics editorial workflow and recruitment.

From 2000 to 2005, he was Business and Politics Editor at latimes.com.     Prior to joining the newspaper’s web site, he was Markets Editor in The Times’ Business section for seven years, supervising personal finance and stock market coverage.
  
Gaines joined The Times in 1993 after a decade as a reporter, editor and news executive at The Press-Enterprise of Riverside County, California, and a stint teaching journalism at California State University, Fullerton.  Gaines now teaches at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communications.

Gaines has worked in Japan and Germany on exchange programs associated with the Center for Foreign Journalists and won honors from the Society of  Newspaper Designers and American Newspaper Publisher's Association.  He has had several economics fellowships and was a preliminary judge for the prestigious Gerald Loeb Awards for six years.
   
Gaines has a bachelor's degree in Rhetoric and Communications from the State University of New York, Albany.
