Mr. Conover is a former metro-daily city editor and online news director who took a buyout in 2008 after 18 years in the news business. He was South Carolina's Journalist of the Year in 2005. Like many jettisoned journalists, he is now living off his wits (plus his writing, managing, multimedia and web-coding skills). He speaks both newsroom-patois and geek-jargon with equal fluency. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina in 1990, attended a 1999 City Editors seminar at API, and was a Western Knight Fellow at UC-Berkeley in 2006.
