Carl Hunnell

Carl Hunnell joined the News Journal as managing editor in 1997 and helped lead the paper’s conversion into one of Gannett’s new Information Centers. The transformation has turned a print-based daily newspaper operation into a 24/7 multi-media operation, combining a daily  print newspaper with a vibrant and growing Web site (www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com). The newspaper’s Web site was judged best in Ohio in 2006 in the annual statewide APSO competition among newspapers between 25,000 and 75,000 paid daily circulation.  Previously, he was the city editor of the Springfield (Ohio) News Sun; city editor of the Mansfield (Ohio) News Journal; managing editor of the Fostoria (Ohio) Review Times; and sports editor of the Cambridge (Ohio) Daily Jeffersonian. He is a past president of the Associated Press Society of Ohio. A native of New Concord, Ohio, Mr. Hunnell is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens. He has attended three API seminars, including Leading the 24/7 Newsroom in 2007.
