Jean Marie Brown
Managing Editor/Eastern Tarrant County, Forth Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram

Ms. Brown oversees the local news operations in the Star-Telegram’s Northeast and Arlington offices. Her philosophy for running a newsroom:  Manage the people and the stories will come. Early on in her career as an editor she thought about what sapped her creativity and motivation when she was a reporter: the bosses. Editors who gave no feedback. Editors who asked her to crank out two stories, rather than push a slacker to do one. Story ideas from on high that always seemed to supercede any idea she had. With this in mind, she developed a management style that focuses on the reporters and editors doing the work.

Ms. Brown has previously been an assistant managing editor and a city editor at the Star-Telegram. Prior to coming to Fort Worth, she held numerous positions in the Charlotte Observer’s newsroom, including city government reporter, night city editor and deputy features editor. Ms. Brown is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
