Kris Viesselman
Editorial Director for Maps, National Geographic Maps

In early 2005, Kris Viesselman joined the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. As Editorial Director for Maps, she is responsible for the presentation and editorial quality of map-based projects created for many National Geographic divisions, as well as outside clients.

She initiates strategies for business development and new partnerships. Her hands-on work includes designing prototypes and final map-based projects for print and online.

Previously, Ms. Viesselman led the designers, illustrators and graphics reporters at the Orange County Register and San Jose Mercury News and redesigned sections for both newspapers.

Ms. Viesselman worked in various positions at the Los Angeles Times and The Sacramento Bee, and was a core team member of three Pulitzer Prize winning efforts. She and her teams have also received numerous SND, Malofiej and Print awards.

Ms. Viesselman has taught university courses and continues to do some consulting for newspapers in the U.S. and abroad.
