Damon Kiesow
Managing Editor/Online, The Telegraph, Nashua, NH

Mr. Kiesow joined the Telegraph, a 30,000-circulation daily,  in 2005 as the paper's first ME/Online, and as the first newsroom employee dedicated to online readership. Apart from directing the online news and multimedia coverage, the job description also includes helping converge the editorial staff and moving the paper toward a multi-platform newsgathering operation. The paper has a staff of 14 reporters and 1.5 online producers so on occasion he might also be found digging into the code to help get a new product out the door. The Telegraph was one of the first newspapers involved in API's Learning Newsroom initiative, and has been working to apply the principals learned during that two-year process to both print and online editions of the paper. Currently the newsroom and Digital Media team are involved in a complete restructuring of the Telegraph Website, www.nashuatelegraph.com, with an eye toward reader-focused design and usability.

This is Mr. Kiesow's second stint at the Telegraph, where he worked previously as a photojournalist, before joining America Online in December 1999. At AOL he spent six years dodging mergers and reorgs and served most recently as the principal photo editor for news and sports, managing a team of 10 editors staffing 24/7/365. During his other life as a photojournalist he worked at several other papers around New England, including The Laconia (NH) Citizen, The Biddeford (ME) Journal Tribune, and the Bangor (ME) Daily News. Since then he has presented on photojournalism and new media issues at a variety of local and regional acronyms, many starting with the letter "N" including the NSC, NEPA, NEAPNEA, NPPA (Region One) and NESNE.

Mr. Kiesow is currently chair of the Northern Short Course, a regional three-day photojournalism conference held in the Northeast every March. In 2000 and 2001 he served as co-chair of the National Press Photographers Association's Flying Short Course.
