Grady Singletary
President and Publisher, The Mail Tribune

James Grady Singletary has served in Medford as president and publisher of the Mail Tribune since August of 1998.   Grady began his career with Ottaway Newspapers, Inc., a subsidiary of the Dow Jones & Company, Inc., in 1988, serving as the advertising director of the Mail Tribune for seven years.   In September 1994 he was placed in the Ottaway Newspapers executive management training program and one year later relocated to the corporate offices in New York.  In May 1996 he was named vice president of marketing for Ottaway Newspapers.

While attending Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas, from 1975 to 1977, he majored in visual arts and graphic design.  He determined that the life of a starving artist was best left to those with the talent to persevere and began his career in newspapers at the Lawrence Journal-World.  There he ultimately served as a retail sales manager for two and one-half years.  In 1984 he accepted the position of advertising manager of the News-Press and Gazette in St. Joseph, Mo.
Grady was appointed to the SOU Foundation Board in the summer of 1999.  He serves on the Foundation marketing committee and the Presidents Circle Campaign committee.  He also serves on the Jackson County Chamber Board as well as president of the board of ACCESS, Inc. of Medford, which operates food pantries and a countywide senior/youth meals program.
