Digital Works, Morris Digital Works

Mr. Yelvington is a strategist for Morris DigitalWorks, the new-media unit of Georgia-based Morris Communications Co., a privately held multimedia company.

Morris operates 27 daily newspapers from Alaska to Florida, 33 radio stations, book publishing, magazine, outdoor advertising and other media-related holdings throughout the United States and in the United Kingdom, France, and the Principality of Monaco. Morris DigitalWorks provides strategic vision, training, software and centralized Internet services. Previously he was executive editor and director of network content for Cox Interactive Media in Atlanta, where he was responsible for content across CIMedia's nationwide network of local Web sites. From 1994 to 1999 he was editor of online services at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune. He was the founding editor of Star Tribune Online on the proprietary Interchange network in the pre-Web era and migrated the service to the Web as startribune.com in 1996. Before moving to the online world, he served as metro news editor at the Star Tribune, news editor and night city editor at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and as a reporter and editor for other newspapers. He also has written software for online publishing, message boards, Usenet networking and various utility applications, and has been on the ‘net since the 1980s.

Mr. Yelvington regularly speaks at Internet and journalism conferences throughout the United States and Europe. He received the 2001 EPpy Award for outstanding individual achievement from Editor & Publisher magazine.
