Dean Torrenga
Regional Vice President, Starbucks Coffee Co.

Mr. Torrenga is responsible for the $450MM Mid-Atlantic Region for Starbucks Coffee Co.  Celebrating his 12th anniversary with Starbucks this month, Mr. Torrenga has held district manager, operations manager, regional director, and his current position of regional vice president for Starbucks.  He began his retail career after receiving his BA in Secondary Education from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Fully intending to teach and coach high school, Mr. Torrenga answered a blind ad for retail management just to earn money for several months before he started teaching.  He joined Morse Shoe Inc. as an assistant store manager and never went back to teaching.  Prior to Starbucks, Mr. Torrenga worked for Morse Shoe, Transworld Music, and Egghead Software.  In his twelve year career with Starbucks, Mr. Torrenga has watched Starbucks grow from a 300 store US company to an 8,000 store global business.  His own region has grown from 10 stores in 1994 to more than 450 stores today while spinning off two new regions from the Mid-Atlantic.  He has been honored with the company’s President’s Award in 1996 for a breakthrough coffee merchandising program; the company’s Big Bean Award in 1999 for his work on the company’s organizational effectiveness project – Simplify our Stores; and he recently received the company’s Career Achievement Award in 2003.  He is on the board of trustees for the Federal City Council of Washington, D.C.  He serves as an executive sponsor on three key company projects currently.  Mr. Torrenga has also held several leadership roles on a volunteer basis for the Reston Raiders Youth Hockey Program in Reston, Virginia.
