John Annis
Circulation Sales and Marketing Manager, Sarasota Herald-Tribune

John began his newspaper career in Sutton, Massachusetts in 1974 as a youth carrier for what is now the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.  During peak circulation, he delivered 52 newspapers on his bicycle, 7-days a week.  He remembers his route being uphill in all directions, every house having a vicious dog, few people paying their bill on time, and snow and/or rain each and every delivery day.  In 1978, he took a break from the rigors of newspaper delivery and went to Marine Corps boot camp.  During his 24-year career in the Marine Corps, he served in a variety of billets, including Combat Water Survival Instructor, Legal Services Chief, Recruiter, First Sergeant and Sergeant Major.  The Marine Corps was a nice break, but after retiring in 2002 he found himself back in the newspaper business as a Single Copy District Manager with the Herald-Tribune.  On the way to his current assignment, he spent time as a Senior District Manager, Single Copy Manager, and Retail Sales and Operations Manager.   John has attended classes at the University of Maryland (Asian Division) and National University.  He is an API Advisory Board Member and an alum of API’s Single Copy: Reaching the Many Markets of One.
