Deborah WitheyDeputy Managing Editor, Presentation, The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, Va. Deborah Withey is crafting the redesign that will redefine The Virginian-Pilot of the future. She has been deputy managing editor for presentation at the Pilot since 2004. Before joining the Pilot, Deborah was design consultant for Knight Ridder Newspapers. While with KR, she led sessions on conceptual thinking, mentored designers and redesigned more than ten of KR’s newspapers, all of which received design awards from SND and press organizations. In 2000, five newspapers designed by Deborah were chosen as finalists for the Society of News Design’s “World’s Best-Designed.” She has worked extensively outside the USA, primarily in Latin America. Deborah taught visual journalism at the University of Navarra, Spain. In addition to print design, Deborah is an illustrator and furniture designer.
