Maria Carrillo

Maria Carrillo is managing editor at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va. She has been at the paper for seven years, previously directing many of The Pilot’s projects and overseeing a four-person narrative team. Her writers have been recognized by the American Society of Newspaper Editors, the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors, the National Association of Black Journalists and River Teeth, a journal of nonfiction narrative. Three serial narratives that she edited for the paper have been expanded and published as books.
