Peter Henriques, Ph.D.
Historian and Author of "George Washington" (a brief biography for the National Park Service)

Peter R. Henriques is a member of both the editorial board for the George Washington Papers and of the Mount Vernon committee of George Washington Scholars. He has conducted leadership workshops on Washington at Mount Vernon for the FBI Leadership Institute and for the State Department. His current book, Realistic Visionary: A Portrait of George Washington, will be published by the University of Virginia Press and is due out early in 2006. His other books include The Death of George Washington: He Died as He Lived, published by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association in December of 2000, and his brief biography of George Washington for the National Park Service published in the spring of 2002. Dr. Henriques is also editor of the local history journal, Northern Virginia Heritage, where his numerous articles on Washington have appeared through the years.  He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Virginia in 1971, and he is professor of history, emeritus, from George Mason University. He taught American and Virginia history with special emphasis on Virginia and the American Revolution and the Virginia Founding Fathers.
