Alan HagmanSenior Photo Editor, The Los Angeles Times Alan Hagman is a Senior Photo Editor for the Los Angeles Times. He works on the Metro and National/Foreign photo desks and oversees technology for the photography department. Working first as a photographer for the Times, and now as a Senior Photo Editor, Hagman has photographed and participated in the planning, coordinating and photo editing of a variety of local, national and international disasters and crisis including: The Northridge Earthquake, El Niño storms, the crash of Alaska Air Flight 261 into the Pacific Ocean, the Conflict in Iraq, numerous California wildfires and most recently Hurricane Katrina. The staff of the Los Angeles Times was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for their overall coverage of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake and 2003 California wildfires. From 2003 to 2005, the photography department produced five Pulitzer finalists, was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes in Feature Photography and the Pulitzer Public Service Award, honored twice with the Robert F. Kennedy for photojournalism and twice with the Overseas Press Robert Capa Award. Hagman is also a senior member of The Times’ team who won the Angus McDougall Overall Excellence in Editing Awards in both 2003 and 2004. He holds a BS in Journalism from the University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism.
