John Dillon
Deputy Managing Editor, Richmond Times-Dispatch

John Dillon is deputy managing editor for local and state news and special projects. He has been a deputy managing editor for 11 years and has been with the Times-Dispatch for 30 years. One of his first assignments was as a feature writer in the paper's former lifestyles department. He has been involved with several recent section remakes, including the Balance section, created from the former Food section and the Wednesday Flair section, and Explore, updated from the former Health & Science section. He also is the point person for the paper's involvement in the Readership Institute studies and has been involved in the paper's efforts to use the findings in making changes. He serves the Virginia Press Association as chairman of its annual convention program committee. In 2002, he was awarded one of the first 10 World Affairs Journalism Fellowships given by the International Center for Journalists and spent three weeks in Russia on a reporting project about U.S.-Russian trade.
