Mike LupoManaging Editor/News & Information, Atlanta Journal Constitution and ajc.com Nunzio Michael LupoManaging Editor/News & Information, Atlanta Journal Constitution and ajc.com
Mr. Lupo was named managing editor for news and information in the fall of 2006. He was one of the architects of the newsroom’s major reorganization in 2007 that created a host of new workflows and processes. News & Information creates content that is sent to two other groups, Digital and Print, for publication. In this role, he supervises about 185 full-time employees and a number of part-time and temporary part-time employees. This includes all beat reporters and columnists in the areas of metro news, business, features, entertainment and sports. The group also includes news researchers, photographers and photo editors, and information specialists who handle so-called durable content including guides and calendars. The combined power of this group is aimed at creating news and content for both the digital and print platforms. Previously, he was deputy managing editor/daily, Sunday and planning, responsible for planning, vetting front page content and supervising the Sunday paper and the business news and nation/world desks. He also has been features editor, where he worked supervised a staff of 65 and revamped the features lineup using extensive reader and focus group research. For that, he shared Cox Editor of the Year honors in 2005. Before joining the AJC staff, Mr. Lupo was metro editor for the Detroit Free Press, responsible for a staff of about 60 covering metro, suburban and state news. He joined the Free Press in 1986 and held various reporting and editing positions, including automotive writer, assistant business editor, assistant features editor and deputy metro editor. He also participated on the national committee that created Knight-Ridder's diversity training program for 17,000 employees. He began his newspaper career at the Wichita (Kan.) Eagle. He is a graduate of Michigan State University.
