David Nelson
Chair, Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University

David Nelson is a journalist, an academic and an active consultant to the media industry. He serves as writing and marketing coach for newspapers from California to New York, from Michigan to Florida. He is a former senior editor of The Miami Herald, former managing editor of the Pioneer Press (Chicago suburbs), former writer for Time and Money magazines. At Northwestern, Prof. Nelson has served as associate dean of the Medill School of Journalism and as chair of the newspaper department. He currently serves on the New York Times college advisory board and is chair of the Inland Press Association marketing / communications committee.
