Reston, VA – The Media Center has awarded 10 fellowships each to the Independent Press Association (IPA) and the National Association of Minority Media Executives (NAMME) for its 2005 programs.

The fellowships are intended to broaden the diversity of viewpoints and perspectives in Media Center programs and within The Media Center's global dialog on the intersection of media, technology and society. The Media Center has a similar alliance with the Online News Association.

Fellowship organizations accept applications from their membership and recommend individuals for seats in specific Media Center seminars. In the selection process, special consideration is given to decision makers from independent, non-profit or non-traditional media organizations. Each fellowship covers tuition, hotel and up to $300 in travel expenses. The fellowships are funded by a grant to The Media Center from The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

IPA has completed its selection process and will send its members to Emerging Technology, Business and Policy for Senior Executives, Feb. 8 to 10, 2005, in Palo Alto, California.

NAMME will send one member to the Emerging Technology program and is accepting applications for Mobile Media Master Class: Media Opportunities and Strategies for the Mobile Generation, Apr. 26 to 29, 2005, in Los Angeles.

"IPA and NAMME are links to important communities with whom we're eager to connect, share and learn," said Andrew Nachison, director of The Media Center. "These fellowships help The Media Center incorporate a diversity of viewpoints into our research and thinking, which we hope will lead to ideas and innovation that eventually benefit all IPA and NAMME members."
