Richard Somerville, president of Media Foresight Associates, is a former research associate at the Readership Institute. Recently, as editor of The Union, a community newspaper in Northern California, he implemented innovations that have led to a surge in readership not only for the print edition but for its award-winning Web site as well. Rich Somerville conducts training to enhance reader-oriented skills, has developed projects to help all departments develop readership growth strategies and constructive cultures, and has been asked to share his experiences with news organizations around the country. In addition to holding newsroom management positions in newsrooms at metros as well as community newspapers, Mr. Somerville has taught at the Missouri School of Journalism and is completing his PhD on change in newsrooms.
