Gonzalo Soruco, Ph.D.
Associate Professor and Director of Officina de Investigacion Social y Communicacion, University of Miami

Dr. Soruco is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at the University of Miami where he has taught for the past 13 years. His research has focused on the mass communication behavior of Hispanic and Latin American populations. He began his academic career 20 years ago teaching in the Department of Advertising at Michigan State University. While at Lansing, MI, he conducted surveys with the local Mexican American population to study their mass communications and consumer behavior habits. He also collaborated with general surveys of the Michigan and National Education associations. He has published and presented many papers on Hispanics and on Latin Americans and their use of the mass media. His book Cubans and the Mass Media in South Florida has been cited widely by academics as well as the industry. Dr. Soruco has served on many panels on Hispanics and has conducted seminars on marketing and advertising strategies with a focus on minority populations. He also works as a consultant for several market research companies and magazines that specialize in the Hispanic market including market research in Latin America. He also produces "The Latin American Survey." Recently he was appointed director of the University of Miami’s Oficina de Investigación Social y Comunicación whose principal objective is to research the Hispanic diaspora phenomenon and to organize seminars on survey research for Hispanic and Latin American professionals. Dr. Soruco has a B.A. from the University of Maryland and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Indiana University. He has taught previously at Michigan State University, Florida International University, and Indiana University.
