Naomi Halperin

After graduating from Syracuse University in 1981 Ms. Halperin worked at the Ocean County Observer as a Staff Photographer and Photo Editor. She joined The Morning Call in 1984 as a staff photographer and served as photo assignment editor and assistant photo editor before becoming DOP in 1994. She has been the recipient of numerous awards for Photography and Editing from the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism, Pennsylvania Press Photographers Association and the New Jersey Press Photographers Association’s Pictures of the Year competitions.

Ms. Halperin has been a Board member of APPM (Associated Press Photo Managers) for the past two years and has served as APPM’s 2002 Conference Programming Chair.

Ms. Halperin has been a frequent speaker on a variety of industry subjects including: “The Use of Controversial Photos in Newspapers,” Associated Press Managing Editors Association (APME)/APPM, in Baltimore, MD; “Photo Management and Forging Relationships in the Newsroom,” NPPA Northern Short Course; “Making the Transition from Still to Video,” NPPA Northern Short Course; “Impact: The Use of Photos and Graphics in Newspapers,” APME; “Photo Management and Newsroom Dynamics,” The Poynter Institute, St. Petersburg, FL; “Managing Controversy and Taking Visual Risks,” PSNE.
