U.S. Internet users viewed 11 billion online videos during the month of April 2008, according to comScore, a global information provider based in Reston, Va. Multimedia makes news come to life, increases audience engagement, and gives people even more reason to visit your Web site throughout the day. Many journalists are grabbing video cameras, sometimes with little training, to help their news organizations meet the exploding demand for Internet video. The results range from bad to basic to outstanding. For some journalists, the advent of video presents a terrific new career opportunity. For some editors and print reporters, entering the world of video journalism is a daunting task.  What equipment is required? What’s different about online storytelling? How long should it be? How hard will it be?

At this workshop you’ll gain hands-on experience working in small groups and using cameras and editing tools to gather and produce photographs, audio and video for the Web. Participants who complete training will be able to walk into any newsroom and create multimedia content.

During the three-day workshop, participants will learn:

• Tips for selecting equipment  for your staff and budget
• How to record and edit audio and to shoot and produce video
• Photo and audio slideshow production
• Recording procedures and interviewing techniques 
• Professional techniques for multimedia storytelling 
• How to get the most from your staff, equipment and training
