Who Should Attend?

Print and Web editors, designers, graphic artists, and photographers with design and presentation as their primary responsibility as well as copy editors extensively involved in design will benefit from this seminar.

How Your Organization will Benefit

Innovative design has never been more important. The impact of the information revolution will be in the new ways that visual journalists remix message and medium creatively across platforms. Participants will return to their organizations prepared to create more compelling products that connect readers with print and online offerings. They will learn to expand their creativity and resources through a collaborative workshop with a concurrent API seminar, Storytelling Innovations. Send someone to the Storytelling Innovations as well, and save 25% on the second tuition! (No other discounts apply.

Highlights:

Blueprint for Transformation.  By using the tools created in API’s Newspaper Next project, participants can discover new ways to grow audiences now and into the future.

Designers’ Toolbox. Specialists in typography, photography and graphics turn on their power tools to show participants how to sharpen the effectiveness of their products. Participants can retool their own publications in small group workshops.

Creative Collaboration. Members of The Design Seminar and the concurrent Storytelling Innovations seminar will bring and edit together in a collaborative workshop of collective idea-making inspired by a visit to the National Museum of the American Indian located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Participants will learn to foster cross-department collaboration and creative storytelling.

Multimedia Storytelling. The power of technology combined with interactivity creates new challenges for designers and new opportunities for connecting audiences with news and information. Learn strategies for telling stories online and how you can get there.

Designing in Turbulent Times. Today’s designers face reduced newshole, shrinking staffs and fewer resources while their audiences want more news and information on various platforms, all the time. Participants will learn how to reorganize their news operations to meet these new demands.

Save 25% on the second tuition when two people from the same organization attend The Design Seminar and the concurrent seminar Storytelling Innovations. http://www.americanpressinstitute.org/07/StorytellingMarch/. (Discounts can not be combined.)
