Newspapers need to develop better ways to tell stories. With increasing competition for readers’ time and attention, we need story packages that take advantage of the strengths of varied platforms and delivery vehicles; that command the attention of readers whether they’re browsing our papers, surfing our Web sites, staying connected via wireless devices or plugging in with their iPods. We need story packages that say “Read me -- Now!” We need stories that reward readers for their attention and keep them coming back for more.

Compelling Storytelling Innovations can help you give your readers stories to talk about, stories to e-mail to friends, story packages that beckon readers irresistibly.

This new seminar is a remarkable opportunity to learn more about the craft of journalism and to exchange ideas with some of the best reporters, editors and designers in print and online journalism. It is designed for print and online writers, visual journalists, editors and others whose passion is telling great stories.

One of the program highlights will be a visit to the National Museum of the American Indian on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The museum tour will serve as the foundation for a collaborative visual storytelling exercise the next day with visual journalists attending API’s Design for the Contemporary Newspaper seminar.

Who should attend:

Print and online reporters, designers and editors who wish to master varied story forms.

What your organization will gain:

Studies by the Readership Institute show that a variety of story formats can go a long way in attracting new readers. Learn how to create an integrated audience experience that leverages storytelling techniques, interactivity, presentation and packaging. Seminar participants will take home proven techniques for creating memorable stories to attract and engage audiences on every platform. They also will:

Fundamentally rethink the way news is presented and how audiences interact with stories.

Learn how to craft the same story for different audiences and select the best medium and techniques to reach them.
