A seminar for journalists recently promoted to management positions.

Who should attend:

New entry-level editors with managerial responsibilities from all areas of the newsroom, including assigning editors, who need to develop fundamental skills as an editor and as a manager. Those being groomed for editing positions also will benefit from this program.

What your organization will gain:

Newsroom management is becoming more complex and demanding, and on-the-job training no longer is enough for those who have just been promoted to management positions. Seminar participants will develop skills that allow them to manage their staffs and their priorities effectively, which will help produce the strong journalism needed to grow readership.

They also will learn:

  • How to make a successful transition from co-worker to supervisor.
  • Coaching skills and effective methods to manage performance and develop their employees' potential.
  • Strategies for organizing larger projects while staying focused on the day-to-day.
  • How to manage their time and resources effectively.

"I leave here knowing I am a better editor and co-worker."

Marco Island (Fla.) Sun Times; now Assigning Editor, USA TODAY, McLean, Va.
