A seminar for senior advertising managers from daily and weekly newspapers with circulation 75,000 or less.

Who should attend:

Middle to upper-level advertising managers from community papers with decision-making authority, and revenue and supervisory responsibility.

What your organization will gain:

The American Press Institute’s seminar on Advertising Leadership for Community Markets will prepare sales executives at daily and weekly newspapers with circulations of 75,000 or less to deal with today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities. The goals: Powerful leadership and significant revenue growth.

API’s formula for success in advertising leadership has a number of key components:

  • Training by top media experts in the core competencies needed to manage an effective advertising sales organization in an increasingly complex marketplace.
  • Inspiration and encouragement from instructors and peers to become a force for change and growth within the company and the industry.
  • Fresh ideas, creative products and new approaches to compete aggressively against market challengers and grow revenue and share.

One of the cornerstones of the seminar is API’s proprietary, day-long advertising department simulation. Members will work in small groups to respond to typical management problems, presented in case-study format, and see the effects of their collective decisions on such management factors as teamwork, productivity and diversity

Members will also travel to the Freedom Forum for a discussion of news values with John Seigenthaler, founder of the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University, and meet in small groups to discuss individual management and operational challenges.
